BOTANIC GARDEN OF MEDELLIN

The Botanic Garden of Medellín Joaquín Antonio Uribe is a botanical garden of 14 hectares of extension, located in the Colombian city of Medellín. It has an important collection of orchids preserved in a stage called orchidorama, an architectural place for the flower exhibition. The Garden has the status of being a center of culture and environmental education and botany, of enormous floristic richness, and houses more than 1,000 living species and 4,500 individuals. Nowadays, it has become a monument to nature, transformed in 2007 into an architectural gem. It acquired the name of Botanical Garden Joaquín Antonio Uribe in 1972, when its facilities were expanded to provide it with the initial orchid, a much wider collection of plant species, auditorium, library, museums and a larger food area for visitors.

ZOO OF MEDELLIN

At the beginning of the 20th century, S.M.P. (Public Improvement Society) expressed the idea of ​​building a Zoological Park, but before creating it, he built the Forest of Independence, located in the north of Medellín (now the Botanical Garden of the city) and where on the initiative of some entrepreneurs, An attempt was made to acclimatize some amphibian birds, while the fish of the region were cultivated. In 1959, the SMP managed in Leticia, Amazonas, the displacement of martejas (Aotus sp), saimirí sciureus, cebus albifrons, barred monkeys (lagothrix lagotrichia), dantas (Tapirus terrestris), porcupines (echinoprocta Rufescens), potos flavus dogs, alligators (crocodylus acutus), babilla (caiman sclerops) and turtles (chelydra serpentina and chelus fimbriatus). All species came to our Zoo to be cared for and guarantee them quality of life.
